Welcome to the Launch of our Newsletter
Let’s address the elephant in the inbox – you may have signed up through purchasing something in our Shop, or at a Wikipedia Workshop or Talk we gave ages ago. No one could accuse us of rushing this newsletter into existence! You might have given up on it ever becoming a thing in the real world… But surprise! Here it is – and WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS!

VOTE for ‘Janet McCallum High School’
It has a nice ring to it – and it could become the FIRST school in Scotland named after a Suffragette! A new High School is being built in Rosyth, Fife and they are looking for a new name. Students in Inverkeithing were looking for a positive local hero. They launched a campaign to name the school after local trade unionist and suffragette, Janet McCallum, and got in touch for help. We were happy to meet them, share our research, and boost their campaign!
The student-led campaign, and our work with Janet’s family to recover more of her history, featured in Sunday’s edition of The Herald on Sunday. Journalist Dani Garavelli broke the story of Janet’s suffragette prison medal being recovered through our conversations with the McCallum family. The Holloway Prison Medal presented to Janet may be among the first to be awarded by the Women’s Freedom League, and was given for her work ‘For Women’s Freedom’. We believe these images and information about Janet’s medal have never before been published.
The medal emerged just in time, as the consultation closes this Friday 28 March 5pm and everyone can vote. Let’s support these amazing students – help make herstory with your VOTE for Janet McCallum High School!

Suffragettes & Stained Glass – Online Event
Mon 31 March 6pm – Join us online for an exciting conversation with Artist Keira Mclean and Emma Gall from SIMY Community about their new stained glass window celebrating Helen Crawfurd & Jessie Soga at Woodside Library in Glasgow.
