It’s our favourite month of the whole year, but also possibly our busiest. While we like to celebrate our incredible Suffragettes, Rent Strikers and Changemakers all year round, Women’s History Month is a great opportunity for women’s histories, legacies and stories to be brought into the spotlight and given the celebrations they richly deserve.

Acting Up: Singing Suffragettes and Visioning Our Future – Join us 12 March!

We’re planning a celebration of Scotland’s Suffrage Herstory, and you’re invited! Join us at Kinning Park Complex in Glasgow for an evening of music, herstories, and inspiring conversations.
Date: Thurs 12th March 2026
Time: 6pm – 8:15pm
Location: Kinning Park Complex, 43 Cornwall St, Glasgow G41 1BA
Eats: FREE Soup and tea/coffee provided

Speakers and musical contributors from Doctur Normul (aka Lorna MacBean) sharing new songs set to the Holloway Jingles (written by Suffragettes c1912), and the Protests and Suffragettes team speaking about Glasgow’s mighty suffrage activists who also have musical connections – specifically Jessie Soga, a professional musician, expert fundraiser, and the only mixed-race suffragette based in Glasgow (that we know of). The evening is already looking to be an unforgettable, joyous celebration of inspiring women who changed our world for the better, and is hosted in partnership with Kinning Park Complex. We hope you can join us!
We’re also very excited to announce that the Protests and Suffragettes team will also be sharing our vision and goals for the Centenary of the Equal Franchise Act in 2028 – and all the projects we’re currently planning to ramp up towards the Centenary!

Archive Dive: Teresa Billington-Greig

In 1906 Teresa Billington-Greig (1876-1964), along with other suffragettes, unveiled a ‘Votes for Women’ banner from the Ladies Gallery of the House of Commons during a debate. The incident made the front page of the Daily Mirror newspaper the following Friday:
“The Ladies’ Gallery at the House of Commons was the scene of a spirited disturbance on Wednesday night. When Mr Evans was speaking on the motion for women’s suffrage, shrill cries of “Divide”! And “Justice for women!” re-echoed through the House. A white banner bearing the words “Votes for Women,” was thrust through the grille. Finally the Ladies’ Gallery was cleared by the police.”
Born in Preston, Lancashire, Teresa’s powerful speaking and writing abilities made her a key organiser, and she played an important role in establishing the Women’s Freedom League (WFL) in Scotland. She was the first suffrage activist to be sent to Holloway Prison.
In 1910 it was said of her that “REBEL is written in capital letters all over her”. No surprise that we’ve chosen this quote to feature on our first ever tote bags! (These fabulous hand-slikscreened bags are now available exclusively to the Creative Catalyst supporters in our Patreon community).
Teresa is also one of the amazing women featured in our Scotland’s Suffragette card game, and in our Education Packs.
