Recovering Jane Elizabeth Taylour’s story
Jane Elizabeth Taylour (1827–1905) was one of the first women to lecture publicly in Scotland and a gifted speaker, yet her legacy has largely been forgotten by the history books.
Born in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, Jane spent decades campaigning for women’s political representation, education and social reform. Much of her story remains hidden in archives, local history collections and family records.
This gathering explores new research into her life and activism, and how archives, Wikipedia, schools and community learning can help ensure women’s histories are not lost again.
