Help wanted: write women back into Scotland’s history with us

We’ve received funding from Firstport which will enable us to hire part time staff – and bring you more creative workshops, recovered herstories, and help us get more educational resources into schools across Scotland! Read on for info on abolitionist Ida B Well’s Scottish speaking tour, and a sneak peak at our Suffrage-themed holiday cards – including a WSPU Santa…

Our Plans for 2028 – and We’re Hiring!

Ida B. Wells, journalist, educator and Civil Rights leader.
Herstories: Ida B. Wells.

Together we’re working to build a Scotland where the stories of suffragettes and women changemakers aren’t hidden footnotes but vibrant, public, and everywhere — in schools, museums, murals and on Wikipedia. Over the next three years, toward the 2028 Centenary of Votes for Women, we’re scaling our workshops, murals, creative commissions, and helping to build a national community that will reshape how women’s history is remembered, celebrated, and taught.

We are looking for a Business Development Lead who will help us build momentum and achieve sustainable growth. Maybe you know someone perfect, or you’re interested yourself? If you are a creative doer with business development or commercial retail experience who loves building partnerships, we would love to hear from you!

The role is part-time and flexible (2 days per week), freelance and hybrid (Glasgow and remote). Fee is £13,000 for 9 months (£41,700 pro rata).

Herstories: Ida B Wells

Ida B Wells (1862-1931) was a US journalist, educator & Civil Rights leader. Ida’s efforts to combat prejudice, violence and racial inequality, particularly that faced by women, made her perhaps the most famous Black woman of her time.

Did you know? Ida educated people in the UK about the movement in the US. During her UK speaking tours she spoke extensively in Scotland – including in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Huntly and Aberdeen.

Ida features in our Suffragette Playing Cards, Education Packs, and Postcards – and our workshops have improved her Wikipedia article.

Holidays are coming – and look what we’ve made!

A selection of suffragette playing card featuring Scottish activists.

It’s that time of year and the P&S elves have been working away to bring you suffrage-themed Christmas Cards. Adapted from illustrations in ‘The Suffragette’ or ‘Common Cause’ Newspapers – or in the case of Santa and the Little Drummer Girl, actual WSPU holiday cards from 1911!

The cards are printed on thick, watercolour paper with recycled envelopes, and are a joy to hold.

They are available for pre-order in our shop from 15 November – AND we’ll be bringing them to Festive Markets in Glasgow. Our first market is Saturday 29 November at Glasgow Women’s Library, 12-4pm then Riverside Museum Fair on 6-7 December. Check our socials for other Market dates!

Visit our shop and browse for cards, wrapping paper and gift ideas for the women’s history buffs in your life.
