We’re starting the Protests & Suffragettes Patreon as a mission-led space: a way to grow a connected national community dedicated to writing women back into Scotland’s history. And to help grow the conversation quickly, we have some exciting LAUNCH DAY and FIRST WEEK discounts exclusively for supporters who join our ‘Founders Circle’.

Herstories: Bessie Watson, the wee piper
Was Edinburgh-born Bessie Watson (1900-1992) the youngest suffragette? At just 9 years old she joined the WSPU with her mother Agnes. She was already an accomplished bagpipe player and she put her talents to use for the cause.
She piped outside Calton Jail to help keep up the spirits of suffragette prisoners, and at Waverley Station as trains of convicted suffrage activists departed for Holloway Prison.
In this photo, she is leading a WSPU march in London in 1911, having already piped at the Edinburgh march in 1909.
Bessie’s piping can help you celebrate the festive season this year, with our Black & White suffrage card collection.

We’ve been busy at Festive markets all over Glasgow and we’ve met some wonderful people who’ve signed up to our mailing list. (And we’ve got more Festive markets coming – this weekend we’re at Riverside Museum)!
